Vatican allegedly involved in 65 million sexual abuse cases: what is pope's motivation for visiting USA?

I went to the source. 65 million abuse cases?

That would mean every Catholic in America was abused by a priest. That's how preposterous and impossible the claim is.

As a matter of fact, there are more sex scandals in Protestant churches. In his book Pedophiles and Priests, Prof. Philip Jenkins—a Protestant and an expert in the subject of pedophilia—stated, ';The most-quoted survey of sexual problems among Protestant clergy states that some ten percent are involved in sexual misconduct of some kind, and that 'about two or three percent' are pedophiles, a rate equal or higher than that suggested for Catholic priests. These figures should be viewed skeptically; the methodology on which they are based is not clear, and they seem to rely disproportionately on individuals already in therapy. However, it is striking to find such a relatively high number suggested for both celibate and non-celibate clergy'; (pp. 50-51).

Sex scandals are not exclusive to the Catholic Church. My father was a Protestant minister and he was an adulterer and womanizer. But his sex life, which broke our family, was not the reason why I converted to Catholicism. I was already a Catholic when our family learned he had sired many children from different women.

You are also more likely to molest your own children according to the Child Molestation Prevention and Research Institute.

“Children are most at risk from the adults in their own family, and from the adults who are in their parents' social circle. In fact, 90 percent of abusers target children in their own families and children who they know well. Furthermore, research suggests that the risk is across the board: Child molesters come from every part of our society, and so children from every part of our society are at risk.”

I hope this helps you understand the problem more clearly.

As to the purpose of the pope's visit you can easily deduce that from his published itinerary.Vatican allegedly involved in 65 million sexual abuse cases: what is pope's motivation for visiting USA?
I don't condemn sex abuse cases; especially, if the people who commit them are priests and pastors of Christian denominations. I would even go to the extent of reporting a priest to the police if my bishop tries to cover it up.

I just wanted to put things in their propr perspective.

Vatican allegedly involved in 65 million sexual abuse cases: what is pope's motivation for visiting USA?
65 million????????????? there is no such figure!!!!!!!the popes motivation is to address the issues and support the faith!http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/… arriving the Pope told reporters on board his plane that he was ';deeply ashamed'; of sexual abuse by US clergy.

Pope Benedict, who was elected three years ago, vowed to work against a recurrence of the crisis, which tarnished the Church's reputation, saying ';we will absolutely exclude paedophiles from the sacred ministry';.

I don't know any catholic or person non catholic who wishes that this didn't happen in the church or anywhere else in the world, but I can say one thing measures are in place so that it doesn't happen again!sadly this is something that has happened and continues to happen today all over the world it has not just suddenly occurred within the catholic church!

One case is one too many! I wish there was a way to eradicate this from the world as I'm sure you and everybody else would agree, no matter what their beliefs non beliefs are!
He says something about rekindling the fires of faith and healing wounds and divisions and whatnot.

Also keep in mind, the Vatican City is a country technically and not just a place where the head of the catholic church lives.

Heads of States typically do that kind of thing.
I once read that the Church had SPENT something like 65 million DOLLARS on the sexual abuse cases, but not that there were actually that many cases. I'm pretty sure the protester in that article has confused the facts.

As for the Pope's motivation....I would agree with rsgurl.
65 million sexual abuse cases? Really? Where did you get your figures from? Link please?

What is the Pope's motivation for visiting the United States? I don't know, but watch what is going on in the rest of the world while the media has everyone's attention on the Pope.
I wish the press and people would stop telling lies about the Church, 65 million sexual abuse cases, that is all bull@$%^ and I for one am sick of the lies said about the Church through the media and on this site , Why don't people get their facts straight and find out the truth

That many Catholics here have tried to tell the truth but all are liars as far as non Catholics are concerned
to get more suckers into religion and to distract from the peadophiles

this pope and his predecessor always like to draw attention away from the evil peados
its what the top of any religious organizations do.. they are here for your money
His motivation is propaganda and to spread his evil religion to those stupid enough to believe it.
Just so he can sit in the bath looking down on the unemployed
To visit George W as he's fecked up more than they have.
Where DID you get that ludicrous figure?!
bandaids
He's looking for more little boys!
Land of the free and home of the pervert?
This news is not new
to feel better about his country?
Hes either here to spare the rod, or spear the children.
